The Red and Green PartyPosted by Duncan Watson Can anyone shed any light on what The Red and Green Party stand for? Posted by Mari I've no idea what they stand for, but I'd love to know too. Posted by Peter Ford The Red and Green party stand for stop and go. I think I am correct in my thinking but, does anyone have any further information? Posted by Duncan Watson Which is why I posted the question. Prima facie they sound like a party I would like to vote for, but I have had no literature about them through my door, which is understandable if they do not have the funds, but at the same time I cannot find anything out about them and I do not want to vote for a party who could potentially be akin to the BNP. (I suspect they are not but I have nothing to confirm that). Posted by Josephine Hartley An article in the New Internationalist, Issue 307 may throw some light on what Red & Green politics is about. You can find this on: www.newint.org/issue307/warmer.htm Posted by Mari Thanks very much - they seem to be what I hoped they would be, an environmental and socialist political party Posted by Mr Long I wonder if the two can go together? Historically the Socialist movement has not really taken environmental impact into account, mainly because it did not know about the consequenses of Co2. Look at support for the retention of the mining industry and its workers for example. The Green movement in general seems to be of the opinion that it is not of the left or the right, but of a absolute need to adopt lifestyle choices which fit in with the fine balance our planet and its ecosystems, and I feel this is quite true. Therefore maybe the Green Party are closer to the heart of the green movement than old school, left, right and centre political model. Politically the Green Party have been first and foremost a party of the Environment and Peace ever Since the 70's. I feel that the Green movement needs to pull together and support the Green party in this very dificult challange, as it is the leading Party in this arena. Left and Right is dead, long live the Green. Posted by Susan Press Parties like the Red and Green always mean well but ultimately are able to achieve little becasue of the numbers game. Like it or not, to do stuff you have to be elected. Fortunately Labour ( not new labour by the way) has just won a by-election in West End ward and I would like to thank all those who voted for our candidate. We have worked hard on the town council - supporting Kerbside, and recently plans for a new Environmental Street warden. We are alsdo trying to get Central Street and area sorted out but it's hard as Calderdale - being a Tory authority - don't want to spend any money - we now have five Lab councillors in Hebden Royd and will be doing what we can for peace and socialism - thanks for your support - Councillor Susan Press. |
