I can explain all..........the sculptures have been commissioned by the Rural Challenge Inititive, funded by Yorkshire Forward as mileage markers / publicility for the Calder Valley Cycle Route.
13 in total ( for a very reasonable 25k budget )will be installed along the Calder Valley from Sowerby Bridge up to Warland, 7 are currently in place. Sorry about lack of info so far, we are planning complementary info boards / leaflets / PR splash when project due for completion in June. The two local sculptors Mike Williams ( from Hebden Bridge ) and David Wynne ( from Todmorden )are busy completing the commission. Sadley this will be Mikes last stone carving he tells me, as he has had to give up on medical grounds, he is still to continue though on artwork of a less heavy nature. David meanwhile has just moved into a new studio so expect more big works from him.
Incidently the Gorillas are nothing to do with this project, they were made by David as a preamable to his fledgling career and donated to highlight his skills.
Expect a replica Studley Pike at Holroyd Cresent in Tod shortly. Existing one are Bramwell Bronte / Coiners / Clogg maker / fishing theme / brick barge / picnic barge / Ted Hughes Crow. To come Tod Town Hall /
Gauxholme Viaduct / Cycling theme / Rambling theme / Totum Pole ! all chosen to represent local features / figures and activities on the greenway.
Readers are welcome to leave me feedback , good or bad about the sculptures and Walkeys new path which i also admitt to.

I'm curious: when and by what means was public discussion instigated on such questions as
- the decision to install the sculptures at all
- the choice of sculptors
- the subjects of the individual pieces
Perhaps their reception to date might have been more positive if they had been more of a community project.
