Surely, the history of the of the Gulf War and Iraq has shown that violence breeds violence, and that once started violence becomes almost impossible to stop. Just what did the December bombings of Iraq achieve? Absolutely nothing.
The war the West is waging on Serbia could go on for generations. It will breed hatred and the desire for revenge. And for what? What on Earth can be achieved by such mindless destruction? Except that the peace between the west and Russia may well be over.
And why Kosovo and not Indonesia, Sierre Leone or the Congo? And where does this leave the United Nations? Ignored and sidelined once again.
Of course, everyone wants peace and safety for those living in Kosovo, but as Dennis Healey said this morning, the war we have now started could lead to terrors far worse than anything seen in Kosovo.
