From Gary Rathbone As you may be aware Mick has passed away. Mick has been a regular presence in the square, selling the Big Issue for many years. But I'm sure, like many people, I will remember Mick as far more than that. Mick was someone who took his time to ask how I was, despite his own problems. He was a familiar friendly face and a delight to talk with. He touched many lives, as the tribute flowers show. As the flowers die I hope Micks memory will survive. I think a plaque on the pillar near where he sat would be appropriate. From Gary Rathbone 'Teale Michael Stewart On April 16, 2009 at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Michael aged 46 years of Hebden Bridge. Service and cremation at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 9.30am. All enquiries to B J Melia and Sons, 64 Gibbet Street, Halifax HX1 5BP tel 01422 354453.' I have spoken to the Big Issue office in Leeds who would like to extend their thanks to everyone who has left flowers and expressed their sentiments. They also expressed concern that they were seen not to be taking any commemorative action themselves. However, it was explained they're unable to do anything until they receive permission from Micks next of kin. From Gena O I had noticed his presence missing from the square over the last few weeks. This makes me feel sad. RIP Mick. From Steve Archer Just heard the news, can't believe it, but god bless you & rest in peace mate, you were one of life's good guys From Janet Rothery I am so sad to hear about Micks death. I went to school with Mick and I liked him a lot. I last chatted with him a few years ago when he was selling The Big Issue and I always wondered how he was getting on. Now I know. Life is f***ing unfair. Rest In Peace Mick Janet x See also - Lives Remembered
