Too much of what government does is about targets and policies set by people in London who haven't even seen the Calder Valley. Our hospitals, schools, police and transport should be free to devise their own priorities in line with the needs of local people." Having listened to the people of the Calder Valley for several years, Liz Ingleton is particularly committed to finding ways to provide more affordable housing and to cut congestion. "We need to protect our environment and to develop sustainable communities, with opportunities for all - young and old - not just to be part of a Leeds-based region. We live in a wonderful part of the world and I am working hard to make it even better." Liz has lived in the Calder Valley since 1982 and is married to Patrick Phillips, a fellow councillor. They were Mayor & Mayoress of Calderdale 2002-2003 and have one son of 17. Patrick also has two older children. Liz attended Leeds University and then worked for Kirklees Careers Service for five years. After a period writing careers information for the Manpower Services Commission, she spent several years as a freelance writer, before setting up a data communications company with Patrick.
